I have a piece of pottery that I was told could be Australian. I found some similar pieces attributed to Bendigo. It is a majolica cheese dome measuring approximately 19 cm tall by 25 cm in diameter. It does not appear to be signed. Any information you might have would be greatly appreciated. image1.JPG image2.JPG

Hi 4thgensleuth & welcome to the forum!!:happy::happy:

We are going to need to see the bottom of the base, even if it is not marked & the inside of the lid.

May well be English. My brain isn't working: there's a company which made tobacco jars with that random sort of cloudy glaze and had clay like that.

I have had old pieces of Denby with that glaze, plus others made the same. I am going with British as well.

Bourne/Langley did it too, but there's another company. Bother.

Scottish pottery as well. Lithgow, plus NE of Scotland etc; really hard to pin down.

    Scottish is a good thought.

Seaton pottery in Aberdeen springs to mind also. It is very hard to pin down because so many firms made similar.

Is this article in Australia? That would explain the Australian attribution as Bendigo did glazes similar to that.

The cream glaze on the inside and base doesn't look right to me for Australian pottery. Could be wrong but don't recall ever seeing it here.

I don't have any experience of Australian pottery and have not handled any, that is why I asked if it was in Australia.

The glaze and clay are veddy Bwitish.
