Hi there, new to these forums. I am generally a collector of books so this piece is a bit of a mystery to me, I have tried to figure out the maker mark but to no avail. The piece has been in the family for over 50 years and is now in my possession, appears to be quite high quality and I was curious as to who made this and possibly when. Of course any guess on value would be appreciated

    Welcome to Antiquers Bstrain.

My guess is that the mark belongs to one of the Japanese importers. Someone might recognize the mark and can provide better information.

Judy is correct. It is Japanese import. The Japanese copied a lot of different styles. I think here they were copying the Germans.
Nicely done. With the pearlized inside I would guess 1930s -40s. Pre WWII.

    Wait for other opinions.

Thanks for the quick replies, 1930s-40s sounds about right based on what I know of the piece.
