Featured Trying to identify this spinet desk

My GF was moving her furniture and was wondering about this desk.

After researching it, I found out it's a spinet style desk. There are no labels on the desk but there is the numbers 820 under the desk and inside one of the drawers.

She's 39, and it was her grandpa's aunts desk.

I've looked online but am unable to find this exact one. Most of them do not have the 2 pullout drawers on the bottom. They usually have none or just 1 large one.

The side drawers on either corner and are hinged. Plus there are other drawers behind them on either side.

She still has the original key.

We are located in the United States

    39 inches Tall
    22 1/2 inches deep
    45 inches long

    Thanks

Looks to be a late 19th Century mahogany spinet desk. Pretty, but looks to have some minor condition issues. Although values are all over the map on e-Bay, desks are in general a rather hard sell these days. In my part of the U.S. Midwest I would expect this to go for $100 - give or take - at auction.

Agree with the dating and wood. I am also in the Midwest and agree with the above auction value. You might get double or triple that at retail, depending on where selling. Think this desk a notch above most spinet desks we see.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

That's interesting. I wonder why? Seems that people still use desks. Maybe they want more modern ones that are designed for technology?

I really like the desk posted here.

Has to be deep enough for a laptop or a monitor and keyboard....and if you have a fancy enough set up you want somewhere to hide the tower computer. All the older desks with letter areas make the usable area too small. The later ones have chonky sides that have no where for the tower on the floor plus your feet.

I see what you mean... the wooden desk I bought about three years ago, new, has exactly the same depth and width measurements as the one posted here. It doesn't have any drawers or compartments on top, though, just drawers underneath. Besides a laptop, an external monitor, speakers, and a docking station, it also holds piles of paper and photos.

I still like the desk posted here, though.

If I wasn't using an antique sideboard and antique table for my "desks" then I would find something else old to work! Our tastes aren't en vogue now though... :(
