I bought a pretty Austro-Hungarian gold and enamel brooch and it arrived today in a huge box.
Inside the box was a small wooden box in some bubble wrap. I couldn't believe my eyes when I unwrapped the bubble wrap......
There was an antique trinket box, with a Tunbridge Ware or similar minutely inlaid border.
Compared to some Tunbridge Ware it is fairly simple, but this one is free. And pretty.:)
On the lid is a transfer(?) photo of a white house. Inside was the brooch, of course, but this thread is about the surprise, the box and the house.

The box, tiny bit of damage on the lower left corner of the lid.
Is it Tunbridge Ware, or did they make something similar elsewhere? And a rough date?

    Nice detail:

They paid attention to the inside and the construction as well:

Does anyone recognize the house? I did a reverse image search and found nothing. Maybe it has been demolished. Pity, nice house, and it even has wheelchair access.;)

This is just the photo, it looks like there is a lake in the background, between the house and the hills in the distance, on the right:

    Thank you for looking.:)

I can't offer any advice on this box, but I'd love to see the brooch!

Of course, where are my manners.:playful:
It is a ca 1860s style brooch with an AH twist. I haven't tested the stone yet, I suspect it is paste.
It is still covered in grime, especially the leaves, that is my next project.:)

    Gorgeous brooch.

I would have thought that it wasn't gold, just based on the color of the leaves. How do you clean off the grime in a case like this?

Simply alcohol on a bit of cotton wool. You can't soak these brooches, because they are hollow.
The back and pin are gold too, btw.:)

Most welcome, what a nice little freebie! Looks like some kind of municipal building or a hotel to me.

I was very surprised! It came from Austria, the seller probably had no idea it was worth something. Not a lot, but something like 30 euro I guess.
Yes, it does, a hotel maybe, given what looks like a lake on the right. There might have been a garden at the back, going down to the shore.

Wonderful sis, thank you so much.
So it is a Luziwuzi box.:playful: I know Tunbridge makers also made souvenirs and giftware for other parts of the world, and Salzburg makes sense for a box that just came in from Austria.

    Wonderful surprise gift box, AJ!
The brooch is very nice too :woot:
Personally, I spray my newly arrived dirty/oxydized jewellery with a kind of windex with ammonia in it and quickly rinse under flowing water. After drying with a cloth, I strongly blow on it :joyful:.
A tissue absorb the remaining moist, even from hollow pieces with a tiny hole.
Never had a damage, even on pearls or turquoises, just have to be quick in the process :)

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I've never used that! Sounds like it is not always worth it but I might download the app if I can. I have an older Android phone so it doesn't have it already installed.

And, beautiful pin, @Any Jewelry -- and the box as well!
