    Two old baskets, one in horrible condition but would really like your opinion of where they are from and age. the second has amazing colours where it hasn’t had the sun on it. Unfortunately less than half a basket as is!
    would the first be African? D42EBEFD-2F1F-406C-A26A-AE6877F6214B.jpeg 8BA9C5E6-B917-4AEA-9A15-73FE5A02AE80.jpeg 4AA3BF27-FC90-4E5F-A567-3DA2CA6EF223.jpeg 63A962F8-F2C0-47B0-ACB5-EB8F8C1A5BD3.jpeg D9AA2CBC-BDA9-4B93-9955-748A8B6FE406.jpeg 98BE7A2B-5F27-44E3-A1CC-EFBBA25BB45E.jpeg

    Ahhhhh, Bobby Boy.......ya hit me where I live !!!! :happy::happy::happy::happy::happy:

    The 1st is a lovely Northwest Coast Salish berry basket. circa 1900.
    ( size Bob !!!!!....size can make a difference in attribution !! )

    Coiled baskets often displayed geometric elements created with a technique called imbrication, in which a decorative material (such as horsetail root or bear grass) was folded under each stitch.

    The 2nd.....pooor puppy...:(..... is a rather unusual Nootka or Makah basket,
    I need to see the base for a more accurate determination.....;)

    As @komokwa has said - With the characteristic "imbrication", the first basket is Native American, from the interior Northwest - Klikitat/Salish/Chilcotin. Very nice! The remains of the second look like Makah.

    I agree...but normally , and to my mind , the Klickitat imbricate right to the base...and their designs are much more elaborate .....
    so I'd rule them out...
    just sayin.....;);):happy::happy::happy::happy:

    That's OK - I am always ready to learn more. Much as I would like to be, I am not a specialist in much, but I can usually get things in the right region.
