I've had these two unmarked pins since around 2000, and assume they're just ordinary costume jewelry from the last few decades of the 20th century.

Is the first one probably from India or thereabouts? Is there a way to tell if the base is brass? I think the stones are just glass. It's about 1-7/8" in diameter.

The second one is about 2" in diameter. I think the faux pearl is plastic since if it were glass the pin should weigh more. The metal part is a bit "brassy" looking, so I'm thinking it's just gold-tone metal and not gold-plated?

Does that all sound right? Thanks! :)

Shot in the dark - you might check Miracle for the first. They're Scottish.

Thanks, MOS. I wasn't familiar with Miracle pins... they're really nice! I don't think mine's quite up to their quality?

The only Miracle pin I ever has (which is how I know the name) wasn't any particularly great quality - but it looked alright.

I particularly love the 'shield' one, with the blue stone. Are the stones real? The outer, translucent stones look like moonstone to me. Or fake pearls that have rubbed? (but hopefully moonstone!)

There are miracle brooches on pinterest, and a few that look a lot like these :)

I don't think it's Miracle or Mizpah made. I've had a lot of that stuff and the construction is different. It's also not Celtic/Scottish enough. Second one might be made by a company called WEST.

    Thanks, Batman and Bear. :)

I haven't tested the stones, but think they're glass. I havevery similar glass beads, plus they were glued in rather sloppily, which I'd be surprised to see if they were genuine.

    I'll look into West.
