I acquired these two silver frames but could only find the marking on the top one...
do the markings tell me a maker or the age? on the second one any suggestions for a hidden mark? My guess on age is mid 20th century
top one is 9x7" and the bottom is 5x6.5"

yes with a large magnifying glass, inside edge and designs as well. Another frame I got had the sterling mark incorporated into the design...I eventually found it....but not this one....

The top frame looks like the plating is peeling off.

I thought the top one wasn't plate...which part looks like it is peeling...I will take a better photo of that section.

First one is Italian filled silver on the first mark - it's a very heavy plating. I'll find a cite for it, but any time from about the 60s onwards. Second mark is an Italian silver mark, which is odd. I surmise that part of the frame is silver, the rest filled/plated.

The Italian mark is from the region of Florence. The R mark for riempito or filled was introduced in 1999. That means it has a resin or mastic interior, covered with silver. In this case the silver is sterling, .925. The amount of silver is 7-10 grams.

Sorry, I did not. I was replying to OBB's mention above (although I did not quote it) and don't know why yours did not appear for me. I probably wasn't awake enough yet. ;)
