I got this at a auction with the 2 other African pieces I asked about yesterday. Is this a real African/tribal doll? Idol?
    I don't think I ever saw 1 with - supposed - real teeth?
Or pegs to hold arms or holes in head for hair?
    I appreciate any help.

She has that backwoods kind of look about her - only one tooth. Backwoods Vampire? Chuckie would think she was pretty hot stuff.

It's a marionette or puppet figure, made by the Nyamwezi people, from Tanzania.

Traditionaly, male and female figures, attached by a cord through their chests, were given as wedding gifts. I imagine they are also carved for sale, but they are relatively rare, so I can't say for sure.

Also found this description which makes more sense - but I think carver had given up hope of the deceased reaching heaven!

...figures with movable arms and legs are from the Nyamwezi people of Tanzania.

Figures like these, depicting a male and female figure, were given as wedding gifts. They were also used in funeral ceremonies, but the figures used in those ceremonies were single figures.

I've seen some not as good condition as that in museums. Scary or not, that's a pretty interesting piece. I'd do some serious research.
