Me: I don't see any wear on the bottom and some slight pitting to the inside opening... Feels like the base may be weighted. Some wear to coppery finish...
    That's all I get from it... :(

Then I would say it is not so old.

Turn of the century urns were meant to be used, so the insides would have been hollow to hold florals.

In the 1950s, 60s urns were popular again, but they were made for decoration purposes only, not to be used. So the insides are not hollow.

At least that is what an older dealer explained to me years ago.

I don't know if it is marble or onyx, hard to tell from your pictures.
As for value, I don't know.

Thanks, C - that makes sense.

It evokes a strong response from some.

Not from me - I just plain don't like it :) I'm just trying to "see" what these other people are seeing...

Thanks again! C You have a good Fourth! wheee! :)

I think '50s or '60s is a good time frame. Alabaster body with plated base-metal mounts. Italian/Greek... like that. Purely decorative and not very fine. The mouth and foot look like the sort of metal treatment you would find on lamps of the period.

    Imitating this stuff:

Can't comment on age..but it just does not do much for me...seems "out of proportion"...awkward....if that makes sense...

    Dimensionless so I'll keep quiet.

Sorry - it's been a very long loooong weekend, sprinfld.arsenal - but is it really critical to post dimensions when asking for opinions?

It can be. This to me looks like 1960s decorative miniature rather than a real vase. If it's what I think, it came with a smoking set consisting of a cigarette box, table lighter and a few pieces like this "for pretty".
