thought it was chinese when i saw it, but obviously not by the base

has a nice look about it though, looks handpainted

wondering about age or possible maker, british ?

Yep, typically British in the 'Aesthetic' style, c1870-1880. Nicely done, so probably by one of the upper tier of makers, you may drop lucky and find a matching piece with a makers mark. Useful search terms may include aesthetic, japanesque, japanese cranes along with blue & white etc.

It would be part of a dessert set, so for cakes, sweetmeats, general sweet foods, fruit etc.

Not a cake plate; it's concave and you couldn't serve the cake. It would be cute for scones or such though. Keep the biccies from sliding off too.

It's only mildly curved so they were fine for soft sponges, also cakes come in small finger sizes too - cup cakes, fancies etc.

The numbering style and colour is a clue. I've had similar and I'm trying to recall who made them.

Don't know if it's an age thing or a wise thing

But I don't get bothered by misfortunes anymore

I just laugh at the situation

To me now I just chalk things up as bad luck and good luck

I'll probably try gorillaring it, and try and get what I paid for it

    No chance of a profit

    Shame, but sugar happens

    Hi bou
    Cherry, but the vegan variety
Nothing against leather at all, but these were in a sale, and wanted to see what they like, impressed so far !!

One of the ( many) things I have Rather A Lot Of are DM's.
    I love them.
Ox's are my utterly fave ever, though
My go to's atm are a purple pair and I mix that up at times with some cherry's.
Never had any vegan ones though.

*Sale* is in my language so I totally get you. How bad are they to break in?
As they say...one has to earn their Docs (in pain)

My first pair of docs, so don't know how the leather ones compare

these have been comfy from the start, maybe slightly more of a forgiving material

They have a slight 2 toned pre aged look

I'm very happy with them, wondering how well they will last compared to leather ones

Here's one of my pairs, too nice to wear
