    Hello again. I don't think this is anything special, but does anyone have any suggestions as to its origin?

    The carving looks crude, the wood has wormholes, perhaps having once been filled in with something, and the bottom looks to have been once screwed and glued onto what was probably a metal bolt.

    Thank you!

    @2manybooks ?:)
    It could have been on a stand. The hole is not original imo.

    It looks somewhat similar to the repeating figures on Dogon granary doors, "arks", and various types of ancestor figures. But I cannot find an example with this particular configuration, with one central figure (or is it figures - it looks like there might be 2 faces at the top?), with smaller encircling figures. The ones that I have found that are most similar all have receptacles on the top, and are described as a form of "altar" used in ancestor worship known as Binu.

    Yes thank you. There is some similarity there. I appreciate you taking the time to research this for me!

    I think there's only one head on the top, but it's backed by some sort of ornament or plaque??

    Anyway, thank you!
