I'd be grateful if you experts were to give your opinion on this extremely old looking padlock which I recently acquired. It is rather crudely made and has a very simple mechanism consisting of an loose threaded bolt (in the padlock body) which is, by inserting and rotating the key, moved forward until it goes through the loop on the shackle, thus preventing it from being lowered and thereby opening the padlock.

Call me Mister Cynical, but I've got a suspicion that this could be yet another piece of tourist/repro tat form the Middle/Far East, and would therefore very much appreciate to hear what any experts out there have to say.

I acquired the padlock for only a few Euros, so if does turn out to be a fake, I won't be filing for bankruptcy - not yet anyway !

    Any help gratefully appreciated !!! P1050433.JPG P1050442.JPG

Many thanks for your prompt and informative reply.
I've searched the net, but can find only little info on this style of lock.
As you're the Antiquers Padlock Guru, would you say, in your opinion, that the lock is indeed the genuine article, rather than a more recent copy? And if so, any rough idea of age ?
    Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!

Definitely not a guru. My grandfather had one on his smokehouse. I will see what I can find out though.

Here is one that is similar. If yours is original, I wouldn't know. There are not a lot of them shown anywhere.
An ancient forged work lock from the Russian Empire of the mid-19th century with a native key. Historical artifact. An antique gift,

Most are reproductions made in India. I believe yours to be one of these.
