Featured Unusual Art Nouveau Tiled Pedestal Desk

For some time now I've been looking out for a replacement to my small Victorian twin pedestal pine desk, which has been of great service to me for over thirty years now.

I've recently come across the opportunity to buy a larger desk, the like of which I've never seen before - and would very much appreciate the views of any desk experts out there.
The desk is a hardwood (walnut, perhaps?) twin pedestal desk, and I would estimate dates from around 1880. It has inset Art Nouveau tiles on each side, depicting fairies. The black tiles appear to have the name of the fairy written in the corner of each tile (eg. Daisy, Water Lily). The brown tiles seem to have simply corner motifs.
The seller reckons that the desk might be from the UK, which seems very plausible. One thing seems certain - and that is that there ain't many of them around. I've tried scouring the net for something similar, but without success.

Ideas, anyone ??????

The tiles are certainly English, they are Minton designs by C.O. Murray or Moyr Smith. Tiles have decent value just on their own, they date c1880 which ties in with your dating of the desk. I can't quite make out the wood from the images, but the drawer fronts on the open section are oak. Lovely piece.

Amazing! Never seen one like it myself either, and I've been in the trade long enough. Definitively British, or commissioned by an Anglophile .
I recently replaced my own desk at home after years and years of looking ( nothing like yours, though). Great find!

I've seen those Minton tiles on fireplaces and washstands, but not a desk. That's a very nice thing.

The missing corners, the difference in tile coloration, and the possible addition of the cabinet drawers, would not sway me from having such a absolutely delicious desk!

certainly English. very small possibility that it was made "on measure" for a rich merchant in or around Hamburg as a comptoir (that region was called "das englische Eck" (the English corner).

 

May very well be one of a kind. Agree with Ghopper on dating and wood. Stunning piece that you would probably regret not owning should you pass.
