Featured Unusual Coffee Cup & Saucer

This is a very well made porcelain cup and saucer. The cup is just 6cm tall and the saucer 22x12.5 cm . Both are very well painted in pastel colours on an ivory ground with finely gilded edges.

No maker’s marks. My thoughts are late 19th century/ early 20th century Limoges but I can’t find anything like it.

The cup handle is very distinctive.

Modern cafe gourmand sets used in restaurants to serve coffee and a small sweet are similar.

I agree that French is likely.
It's often referred to as a "tennis set", which was basically a cup and saucer set where the saucer was extended for carrying snacks/cake... a handy item when watching tennis matches.
There's a pretty tennis set on eBay right now with a similar distinctive saucer-shaped underplate and "foot" on the bottom, item #156134681599. Most tennis sets that I've seen didn't have that saucer shape formed into the underplate, nor a "foot". The seller is calling it Limoges even though there are no Limoges marks, but theirs is signed by a fairly well-known French ceramic artist.

@Bronwen - I think the image on the cup may be portraying Bacchus / Dionysus. What do you think?

 

I'm not sure. The cherub holds a cup but there also appears to be a tambourine on the ground.

I'm feeling the urge to start a new collection.

 

I'm thinking Continental on this one and likely French. Late 19th c maybe. I love the handle on the cup. I would've picked this one up even though I don't collect anymore!

 

He has a crown of grape leaves on his head. That is a stemmed goblet in one hand & what is possibly a carafe in the other. There is also what looks like grapes on the ground next to him.
