I'm trying to locate some information on, what I think is, a humidor. It is Egyptian revival style but I can't figure out a date or country of origin. It is either brass or bronze with a stone base and about 12 inches tall. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any markings yet or a similar one online. Thanks. 20191228_125715-840x1495.jpg 20191228_125735-767x1224.jpg 20191228_125838-1245x954.jpg 20191228_125825-1293x954.jpg 20191228_125715-840x1495.jpg 20191228_125735-767x1224.jpg 20191228_125838-1245x954.jpg 20191228_125825-1293x954.jpg 20191228_153941-917x937.jpg

It looks like it, but what are the two side things for?

I think if you look up Horus Canopic Jar you will find similar - including ones currently being marketed.

I agree with neocollectors that it does not look like a humidor. I believe they are usually wood & have some sort of apparatus to provide & regulate humidity.

How deep is the silver colored piece inside?

I was thinking possibly to hold cigarettes / cigars & the side pieces would hold matches. That piece on top looks like it might have ridges would could be a striker.

Don't humidors normally have a place in the lid where you put either a damp sponge or other item that will enable humidity to keep the cigars fresh?

Canopic Jar...side holders perhaps for offerings? OR let's think maybe it could be repurposed as an ice bucket....:woot::writer:

Christie's in Paris sold one matching mine and it was described in the catalogue as:

TRANSLATED : "CANOPE VASE IN EGYPTIAN TASTE MIDDLE OF THE 19TH CENTURY In engraved bronze and red patina and black marble, with an eagle head forming a cover, the body decorated with hieroglyphic inscriptions and a beetle and flanked by pots" 20191228_175515.jpg 20191228_175515.jpg

Fancy ice bucket? Side holders are handles also used for storing barware?

Canopic jars were used by the ancient Egyptians during mummifications to store and preserve the viscera of the owner for the afterlife....just an FYI

    With the inside liner, thritto.:playful:
And because I hope they didn't use canopic jars in the mid-19th century, or more recently.

Curiously...Is the liner stainless steel, and does it happen to have any hallmarks on it?
