Featured unusual watercolour

Hi folks

an interesting watercolour i picked up yesterday in a charity shop

glass and border were covered in mold so been taken apart, and repainted the border

i Read D Chilton, but haven't be able to find anything

not sure what the painting is trying to convey, with the standing/staring bobby

quite cool though, quite like it

measures 18inches by 13

any info or comments appreciated

Nice piece- It reminds me of a vintage Guinness ad, lots of atmosphere .

 

Yeah, I get a mixture of wistfulness and maybe exhaustion?

Based on direction, would it be a sunset?

 

2 great points bosk, and agree on both. it does have that sort of slightly cartoonsque advertising look

 

now why didn't i think of that that could very well be whats he'd doing, just ejoying the sunset

 

I rather like it. It's probably Sunday painter or student work, but I've watched too many BBC imports. London Bobby uniforms look "right" to me.

 

I had the same sense. Less like art and more like illustration. But lots of appeal.

Looks like the Thames but I've been watching Murdoch Mysteries and it looks like Constable Crabtree
