Ok. I found this very large bladed tool with an offset t-handle and no markings. It's about 33" overall with a 24" blade. It is very heavy gauge metal. Any help with a date or possible use would be helpful. 20161027_184236-1200x2139.jpg 20161027_184204-1600x994.jpg

    Hi,
We used a similar size knife to cut the homemade soap after it hardened

Any idea on age? Also, it's got a pretty healthy crack in the blade. I'm afraid it's going to continue to get worse so I am wondering if having it fixed would hurt any value?

BINGO!! A friend of mine who collects antique Farm tools in Indiana sent me a picture of a Peat cutter and it's exactly the same thing! Once again, I greatly appreciate the help from the community as I continue to learn about antiques.

A professional, invisible repair would only cost $100 or so, and would increase its value from $60 to $75 or so. Sloppy repair and I think value would be reduced to that of scrap metal. All my numbers are bs but you get my drift.

I think I'll go ahead and have it repaired. It'll probably cost more than it's worth but it's seems a waste if it's still at a point where it can be fixed. Besides, it has made it this long and who knows when I'll need to cut some peat!
