A friend and I did a bit of research, and I believe this deed is for a sawmill in a town that is now called Amenia, but was formerly known as Hitchcock's Corner, which is on the New York side of the New York/Connecticut border. I also believe that the leaser, Richard Smith, lived from 8/6/1802-12/21/1878 and is buried in Hillside Cemetery in Sharon Community on the Connecticut side. I've not contacted the Sharon Historical Society yet, but they probably would be able to confirm this info. Meanwhile, does anyone know anything about this mill or the men mentioned?

This is much the same thing over and over again - receipts for annual payment of rent of $20.

Sharon's out in the Way of the Wayback of CT. Up in the Icebox northwest corner. Historically not much was out there but cows.
