V&A video - Guilloche Enamelling

Came across this interesting short video and thought I'd share:

 

YouTube has numerous videos about Rose Engines - the lathes that produce guilloche patterns.

It seems to me that the Industrial Revolution could never have happened without the luxury trades of the 18th century. The mass production machinery of the 19th century could never have existed without the degrees of mechanical precision that were developed for the purpose of manufacturing and decorating luxury objects (such as snuff boxes and pocket watches) in the previous century.

 

Watched immediately. I love this technique and finally picked up a guilloché enameled brooch last month. It's so cool to see it done.
