Here is another curious piece in my collection that I have yet to figure out, but someone on here may recognize. There appears to be a 4 on the foot/base. It is smooth inside, and it may not show up in the pics, but there seems to be a line towards the top that runs the circumference, indicating a mold design. It always make me nervous about a piece, when the artist does not paint within the lines, misses paint on bits, and doesn't paint some things at all (like the four flowers, three with gold paint, and one not., and the peony that isn't separated from the flower above. My first presumption is it is not a quality piece. I love the shape, though.

It looks Japanese. Ginger jar missing lid.
Sort of an Imari style. That's why the gold is painted on top of the color.

Think the "4" is upside down and not a "4"

Could it be a type of Kutani ware?

That appears to be a modern decorative piece missing its lid.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Blue's inverted, both are 180 degrees from original image: But that's all I've got!!! Other than it looks like a T with an Angle over it.........

Makes sense given the look and detailing, but aren't modern decorative pieces generally bisque inside? This one is smooth/glazed, as if made for practical use.

Thanks. Good point about size transparency. This one is roughly 9" high x 7" wide, and weighs about 2 lbs.

I'm not sure where you heard this, but I don't think that's a general rule. At least not that I have seen.
