Found these 2 very interesting vintage paintings yesterday. There’s also alot of
information including the Name of paintings, and possible artist (possible location?) Reeves canvas is another possible clue to when they were painted? They are both 29 x 38cm. Still trying figure it all out. The fish painting mimics The Admiral painting by Giuseppe Arcimboldo. Does anyone perhaps regonise the images or know the artist? Many thanks and keep well

Yes, it does. I am so used to seeing Arcimboldo vegetable paintings, that I had to look twice to see the fish.:playful:

Given the pulp fiction imagery in 'Vices of Man,' suspect 1950s.

Those don't appear to be by someone who had much formal training.

Do you access to an old phone book? That would likely help answer your question.

Not so sure. I personally find the fish painting quite skillfully done. In contrast The Vices of Man painting looks more amateurish.
    But what a Title!!

There was a real struggle with the dice. I'd expect someone who'd studied 3-point perspective to produce a better result.

Yes. But I assume the some artist did both paintings. The fish painting shows skill (in my opinion) That makes me wonder that it’s maybe an ‘intentional” style or manner in which the Vices of Man was painted in. Maybe for that specific ‘look’. Well that’s just me.

Your artist did have some inspiration for the work. Arcimboldo's 'The Admiral.'

That C series 10s banknote would date your work (roughly) to 1961-1969.

I wouldn't be surprised if 'Vices of Man' wasn't also inspired by another work. The cover of a pulp novel, for instance.

Agreed. Very likely. I do find these paintings very interesting and different and that’s why I like them (don’t not everyone’s taste)
