Victorian painting

    I saw this in Bury earlier. It's certainly got some age. Board backing and very aged brown paper that is disintegrating. Quite possibly victorian. Seems to be a broadly copied standard painting. It looks like it is hand painted with well defined brush strokes. The signature, if that's what it was, just looked like an elongated white rectangle. It is probably about 80cm tall which is one reason I didn't buy it. I just couldn't be bothered making another rod for my back. Good quality though.

    It's a copy of 'Cherry Ripe' by Sir John Everett Millais. And, yes, Victorian (1879.) Widely reproduced. As yours is behind glass, I would think it was a print. Nice period frame.

    Thanks. Possibly a print with paint highlights added to make it look like an original then? Could definitely see brush strokes in places.
