May I bother you all again with another bit of silver? (From the same "bin" as the other pieces I recently posted...)

This is a small (3") bowl from Mexico. It's stamped VIGUERAS and 925 (no eagle, no MEXICO, no letter mark.)

I used to have a book about Mexican silver, but I can't seem to find it now.

Does anyone know the approximate age of this little piece? Is it J Vigueras? Plateria Vigueras? Mexico City?

    Any input is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks so much!

What a beauty. I love it. Watch your spelling lol. Your bowl is Plateria I. Vigueras. According to Billie Hougart (IMO the Mexican silver bible) they produced mostly hollowware and decorative silver objects, including large birds. The company was located in Mexico City. It’s vintage but I’m not sure of actual age. Sigi Pineda was with them but without the Eagle 35 stamp I would not mention that name. Take another look for stamps.

Interesting that there’s an I Vigueras and a J Vigueras listed separately. The font on Vigueras is the same and everything I can find references Mexico City so assuming it’s the same company and relatives. The I is Ignacio...

vigueras marks_re.jpg It's beautiful. Is there another word where I have circled or is it my imagination?

I’d be surprised as the stamping is heavy and they definitely try and bury it in the pictorial work so it doesn’t scream out as it would on the plain sections but agree that SBSVC should double check for any marks that they may have missed.

Thank you ALL for the input! I really appreciate it.

Right... I noticed! I was hoping one of the Mexican silver books might have a bit more info, but apparently that's not the case.

Reader, that's what I was wondering - i.e. which Vigueras! I was only finding info on a few sales sites, no real background, and I wasn't sure which ones were correct. When Blooey said
I began to wonder if they were all the same person/company. I also saw only passing reference to Mexico City - nothing that actually stated where they were located, and when.

I have been over this little thing, bit by bit, with my loupe about 20 times! I was actually excited to find the marks that I did. I am quite confident that there's nothing else to find on there.

    Thank you again, everybody!

IMO both names are the same company in Mexico City and obviously relatives. The font is the same for both of them. No way to know which one made yours but IMO it doesn’t matter as although the bowl is lovely the company is not one of the “great” Mexican silversmiths. Probably a father and son or brothers but it doesn’t matter. The bowl is definitely collectible and Vintage Vigueras Mexican Sterling Silver Bowl Flowers Birds (whatever) and the Diameter is all you need.
