Hello everyone, I am helping to run a fundraising rummage sale and was hoping to get some help identifying, dating, and especially valuing this. And also what to call it because neither bowl nor sculpture seem quite right. Any help would be greatly appreciated, this is an area I know nothing about and you all have been super helpful in past years. I've learned so much, but every year our donors manage to bring me something new. Thank you!

I'd call it art pottery. We don't do values here. It's about as far from my personal taste as you could get, but someone may like it.

Agree: "Art pottery." It looks to me like a student piece more so than one by an accomplished artist.

Tongue in cheek, you could also label it something like "Contours of Regret" or "Object without Objection" and price it at $500. ;)

Just checking, it is pottery and not glass, correct?

If glass you might try looking at slump glass bowls.

I often see this style call California Originals, made in various colors. A company known for producing decorative pottery items during the mid-20th century. Based in California, the company created a variety of pieces, including bowls, dishes, and planters, often characterized by unique shapes and glazes. Their designs frequently incorporated natural elements like leaves and flowers.

This does appear to be a mark. @Lis, what do you think the correct orientation would be?

Agree, the mark is key. Assuming no damage (a chip can cut 90% of the value), I would do a bit more research into the mark.

I was also wondering if this was maybe glass, they way the edges look sort of speckled.

I don't think this is a student work.

More photos of mark might be helpful (pls post as full image), also clarify the material.

Nice of you to help with a fundraiser!

I don't think it's a student's work either. Just very hard to photograph. Is that a leaf motif at the bottom?
