I've got this interesting glass ashtray, but I don't know what style it is .
It looks archaic and complex to me and I like it (although my wife is not a fan).

I think it's beautiful! And the underside being so different from the top is quite interesting.

Is that a polished pontil in the center of the bottom or just a trick of the light?

    Thanks for sharing my view.
Can you explain to me what pontil is?

The 'knob' that is left on the underside of glass blown/formed in a furnace.
    Sometimes rough sometimes not.

On blown glass, the place where the item was removed from the rod is called the pontil. Sometimes left as it was, sometimes ground down and polished.

But you can see on the underside how the different colors "swirled" as the item was formed.

Can you take a view straight on from the side?

It has a crack in the center of the round stand that has a form of lips and it looks like it isnt due to external influence. It looks lik the material just spread there.
It also has a tiny hole just outside the center circle that also looks lik it has been there since its making.
Otherwise it has been chipped at several spots on its upper side.

You might have some luck if you use the key words slag glass ashtray or marbleized glass ashtray for searches.

That "lip"-like scar does look like the place where the glass was broken from the rod. But now that I see how regular the diamond shapes are I wonder whether there was some kind of mold involved. I think we need someone more knowledgeable about glass-forming techniques to venture a look at this.

Muold blown. As in, blown, but into a mould. ;) Rather than simply being moulded or pressed glass. There's some decent quality in that thing. I think it might be older: I've seen similar in malachite glass.
