Vintage Baseball Mitt

Found this standing in the line at the thrift store.

Trying to date it.
It says JC Higgins
Trademark written real small
Either a 055, G55, or a Q55
Sears something written across the bottom of the Oval

Then below that it looks like Oil Jr(?)

And to the right of the inside, I can't make out

 

I've only seen one or two standing in line at the thrift lately that I'd date.

 

It states; Oil Treated.

 

And it probably says "Sears Roebuck"

 

I knew Sears and Roebuck. JC Higgins were sold by them.

I actually found out what it is.

It's a 1930s JC Higgins Elbie Fletcher.

 

Looks like a softball mitt

 

Softball mitts don't have fingers.

 

Huh, I was thinking its a first base mitt

Elbie played first base. That glove is sometimes called a "first base trapper"

 

Just bought a late 30s early 40s uniform in a huge shadow box.
This will go perfect with it!
