This appears to be an early- to mid-20th Century etching of Cathedral de Notre Dame, Paris. It is a signed/numbered issue. Plate size 5.5” height x 3.5” width. Anyone with any helpful info re:artist and place/time/circumstances of issue, please contact.

Could you please post a photo of the signature? I can make out Georges, but not the surname.

Edit: I just saw the name in the title.

Thank you. It is a charming etching, and I love the man leisurely leaning on the wall.
Not tardy at all, some new members take days.

Yes, thank you. It is a very charming etching. I’ve already trimmed away the discoloration, given it a complementary frame, and had it lighted. Looks lovely.

I believe you’re right. Not much biographical information, at least online, on Mssr. DeVienne, but I did google his name and came up with an auction result, presumably French, and the signatures match.

But more questions: Is my etching a reissue? If Georges DeVienne died in 1914, were they doing signed/numbered limited editions back then?

But you have furnished a big, tangible lead, ‘Roaring20s’, and I thank you.

What did the original frame look like? (It may have been contemporary to the piece.)

What does framer's label say? Would you be kind enough to post a close-up photograph?

I’ve already trimmed away the discoloration,

    say What ????

u cut the print down in size ????

I can only hope this print had a very low value to begin with....
because now the only value it has left is for your pure enjoyment !

I’m sorry, but I can’t furnish any photos beyond what I already have. But if you can zoom in on the above image on your device, the label reads “Jordan Marsh Company” “High Class Picture Framing”.

Yes, I understand what I may have done by trimming the etching. Alas, what with the damage (see above photos), and the fact that it was numbered ‘67/200’, I presumed I wasn’t going to see this one on the rack at Sotheby’s.

And yes, I very much enjoy it!

the damage could have been easily dealt with by even an average restorer...
    but what's done is done...
    it's a lovely image..!

Thanks, Roaring20s. I’m rather limited, working as I am off an old iPad—-me, with bad eyesight, plus being new to this forum, I’m operating somewhat…blind. For that, I apologize to everyone (especially for my non-contiguous replies to your posts).
