I picked this up at one of our local antique malls that was having a sale last weekend. I could use some help with the signature and the age. I was hoping someone would recognize the era of the coffee logo on the cardboard used to back the picture. The frame is a very chunky pine. I am guessing the etching dates to the 1950's? There wasn't anything written, stamped or labeled on the back. IMG_1454.jpg IMG_1455.jpg IMG_1456.jpg IMG_1457.jpg IMG_1459.jpg IMG_1460.jpg

I agree. I was surprised. I think you'll be able to pick out your time period with your eye for detail.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Both signatures....normal and inverted, which sometimes helps......

Yep, they changed the font in the 45'-52' era and the word coffee didn't touch the shoe anymore. That would seem to support it being 1950's.

Excellent. Now you have a time frame to narrow down the artist. It's a very nice etching. :)

script - especially handwriting - doesn't say anything about the era. especially in the Adolf years the government tried to extinguish the older Fraktur and replace it with an Antiqua - one of the rare things the wider public didn't follow because your handwriting is something specific to you only.
the name may be Hintermann or such. the figure is a typical Bavarian - or eventually Tyrolean - with Loferl - the ring that is NOT connected to the rest of the socks - and should only be worn to traditional costumes with Haferlschuh.
WARNING. don't try it out with your friends ...
