Sure looks like a Scottie but must be an Irish terrier! (Joking) it’s a charmer. Guess it has to be no earlier than 1949 and “feels 50s” (which is admittedly a useless comment). If you’re selling I don’t think you need more than that. I’d put a pretty significant price on him with a best offer if possible. Great item. Think you’ll attract Scottie collectors, toy collectors, Irish collectors, etc.

thanks reader thats great advice, theres not one on ebay, nor either the internet.

i think i paid£20, how significant do u reckon, its a hard one to estimate !!

That’s such an odd piece. I’m not qualified in any way to suggest price but if I were selling a similar piece in the US I’d probably test the waters at $475 with a Best Offer. Make sure you get all keywords you can in there. Vintage Scottie Terrier Windup Dog Toy Irish Republic of Ireland.

He could be mohair but don’t say that. IMO you don’t need material as a keyword and you’re not sure what it is. Natural fiber that ashed on a burn test is honest.

Hope you do brilliantly with him. I think he’s special.

Thanks mate, I appreciate the advice

Can't hurt to start high, then it's setting its own precedence, then if it sells lower on an offer, someone still thinks they have got a better deal

the guy who i bought it off says he has a french bulldog papier mache one that hes gonna bring into the market next week, hes probably gonna want a bit more for it because its older, but hopefully i can get a good deal

All that vintage cutesy dog stuff makes many go ga-ga but your Scottie strikes a chord with me more than anything of that genre that I’ve seen in a long time. I find I usually (for sure not always but then of course I’m convinced that everyone else is wrong lol) have good instincts. Perhaps you should contact a vintage toy specialist or museum before you list in case it’s really something rare and valuable if no vintage toy people post. You should wait for them. If not, I think I suggested a viable number. Thanks for posting. Loved seeing the little guy.

Some new information - I'm in the process of searching for your Scottie... this is the first clue I've found. He was made by "Tara Toys". Stay tuned, more to come (hopefully)... oh btw - the toy is in really nice condition!

I've forwarded your photos and available information to some other antique dealers. Maybe they know something about the dog. Oh - Tara Toys made other windups in the 1950's (mostly bears) - my [guess] is your Scottie is from that time period as well.

Alright great news and not so good news... I received an answer back from an antique dealer on "JustAnswer.com". I have taken a screen shot of his reply:
