I visited a local high-tech manufacturing company today seeking large surplus aluminum pieces I could machine into useful things. They had none this time, but I noticed a quad-drillpress that was obviously not being used, and asked if they’d like to sell it. The Walker-Turner drill looked to be in very good condition for something probably made in the 1940’s. They priced it at $100. (a very good price), I paid, and they fork-lifted it into the Hoardmobile. So it was a lucky day even if I don’t win $1.6B.

Like any “serious pursuit” you bounce around for a while, visit storefront dealers, auctions, private sellers, etc. and learn not to over-pay.

So this thread isn't about a rehearsal for West Side Story?

I am sure it helps that you are the only person in 500 miles that actually collects this stuff.

    "a very good price"

I'll say. The local scrapyard pays $200/ton for that caliber of iron.

Not to mention those cast iron legs would bring $4-500 on the 'Bay.

    Nice!

This is a precursor for the Cincinnati we use in workshop especially for things around watchmaking, normally they are in very used condition after decades of intensive use, well done especially in such good condition.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Congrats on the good deal. It helped that you know so much about this stuff and were willing to ask about this item that wasn't marked for sale.
