Ok I wanna help a friend who is downsizing and I am not sure where to begin. He has several flintlocks, powder horns, and a couple early 1900’s guns. I have photos of as many marks that I could find on the guns. Trying to determine if his descriptions are correct so I can try to figure out fair market values. Any help would be appreciated. Just so you know he probably will not be letting go of my favorite piece the New York powder horn. Not asking value just looking for info and venues that would be good to sell these items. His description follows each picture. I can add pictures of marks in replies if needed. Thanks guys

What do you think the chances are of someone putting a year on a powderhorn when they got it?

Yeah from what I can tell lots were dated. Especially the scrimshaw ones because normally those were decorated by that person or decorated for that person. I have dealt with antiques for a long time and my gut is these are legit

There also seems to be lots of information on the surname Requa in New York at the time including one born in 1758 and one in jail in 1776

Never seen Bison Scrotum this is hard almost positive it is not a gourd. Looks like bison scrotum can be carved so maybe. Also thanks for the Cowan’ link I have used them before they are only an hour away
