Vintage plaid wool belted hooded coat

I got this today for $1 at thrift store. It's wool and seems to be handmade, never seen material like this before and the backing is strange to me. I wonder when it was made and for who, has a built on belt, 2 front pockets, no labels though.

Any ideas ?

A bit later. 1970s. Dated by colorway, trapeze shape, and midi-length. Acrylic lining bonded to wool or wool-like fabric. Wouldn't have been expensive in its day. Not sure I see homemade although I do see alterations. Here's something similar from same period.

Hard to tell what the 'hand' would be from photos, but looks to me like it could be a mohair blend. There was a big fad for mohair in the 1960s.
