I'm trying to find more information about this vintage ring. It's signed 'STERLING' BDA. I found BDA is jewelry maker 'Budlong, Docherty and Armstrong' but I can't find anything about them. I'm also perplexed on what the stone is. It almost looks like a clear glass cabochon set over a black and grey pattern. I think this may be a 1970's sterling with glass....

Could be an obsidian doublet with the glue separating.

It looks like a mood ring that's gone moody. The "stone" is glass over what used to be heat-reactive paint. No idea who the maker was.

I'm wondering if it could be an art glass ring? I've been trying to find info about Budlong Docherty and Armstrong and all I've found is older pieces from the late 1800's on up to 1970's. No info on who or what this company was known for. They did make a lot of gold and higher end pieces. If it's stamped 'STERLING' rather than 925 could that be any indication of how old the ring is?

70s would be dead on for a mood ring, and I recognize the style of ring as being from that era. Spelling the word out generally indicates an older piece and 70s would be in line with the ring having the whole word spelled out. It might be some other glass with paint behind it that got wet one time too many.

The 'STERLING' stamp is still used today by many people.https://www.riogrande.com/product/s...ed-marking-pliers-domed-79mm-character/111226
