    I bought it because I liked the Eames style molded plywood legs & arms...Any help appreciated. IMG_0438.JPG IMG_0439.JPG IMG_0441.JPG IMG_0440.JPG IMG_0437.JPG

Great looking vintage chair. Can't help with the maker, but I can see why you picked this one up! Hopefully someone can help ID the maker. :)

Reminds me a bit of Thonet but do not know if it is theirs.

It does have that Eames look, very nice.
I can only help by taking it off your hands.:playful:

I think it's a lot older than MCM. Thonet did his bent plywood thing in the 19th C. This chair has a shape similar to Victorian "captain's" chairs, but tweaked to use the bentwood.

problem for Europeans is that Gropius is Bauhaus/Dessau etc. and Thonet is German, but the split-off of the US branch has also sold Eastern-European copies of certain models. and nobody seems to know which are which. Quittenbaum München - one of my favorite auction houses - had that problem some time ago.
and then there's still JJ Kohn Vienna stuff around...

Thanks Fid...Is there any way to tell which this is??...It has neither the Thonet label or numbers, that I have seen on other examples.

sorry, I can't help you there. what you'd needed was a specialist who knows the minutes of Gropius' career in the US and the exact consequences of the split-up of Thonet.
what I found is a remark that the German Thonet items seem not saleable in the US. so another battlefield with copyrights etc.

So the chair not having a label could be a good thing?
