Hey....my turn with a painting ! With all the talk of factory art....it got me thinking , maybe you guys & gals should have a look see ! I've had it so long...& it's so not what I do, that I've forgotten where it came from... I can only remember not paying very much .... Approx 19 x 32 inches. it looks painted on artist board...& maybe glued to the mat.... All comments are welcomed.....
Likely.....I deserved that !!! Saaaay...! u wouldn't be trying to use earp my humorous proclivity......eh ???
Think it may be by W H Earl, early 20th century British artist. There’s a painting that looks much like yours that was sold through the Saleroom. I can’t see the sig properly to be absolutely sure but the style looks very similar to me, subject too. Sorry I still can’t do links without getting in a huge muddle. Just found another pair sold also by the Saleroom for Criterion Auction House. Looks good to me as the same artist.
I found some wh Earp, all were signed on th left side. Will post shortly. I think there’s a jr and sr. https://www.invaluable.com/auction-lot/willian-henry-earp-1833-watercolours-a-pair-28-c-9104670a23
He signs with a funny L then.....but British , seems to jive, as this may have come from British Columbia.....
Don't worry....I was responding to factory art !! I tried to show the colors.....they are kinda muted....as a watercolor could be....but the one Hunting found above.....much stronger......still ...with water, rocks, trees, and mountains ......looks like his style !
They had more on that site, I think, but you will have to reenter the name. Don’t use above link, start over. Difficult, they don’t show many sigs.
It is the same artist as Hunting has found but I think this one has been catalogued incorrectly, the three I found are William Henry Earl not Willian Henry Earp and I’m sure the same painter as yours. I wish I could link stuff.
Wow.....can't always believe what you read..... Now I'm more confused..........but it's gotta be one of them..!!!
Earp.... I thank INVALUABLE...for this one......as it's almost the same frame....siggy's good....style is bang on.... so, I'm content that it's W H Earp....... Thank you all...!!!!
The Biography and Genealogy Master Index, an online index to which my library subscribes, has one listing for W. H. Earp. He appears in the following book, which unfortunately I do not have access to: Dictionary of British Artists Working 1900-1950. Volume I. By Grant M. Waters. Eastbourne, England: Eastbourne Fine Art Publications, 1975. So it seems more likely to be Earp from that perspective.
