Thick cast iron box. Has a notice on the side about mounting it 13(or 15 or 18, hard to read) inches from the floor. 4 holes on the top cap, three different sizes. Two hookup point for wires. Wire wrapped ceramic rods inside. Volts 110 Alts. 7200 tag on the bottom. Measures 5 1/2 x 4 3/8 inches, not including mounting parts.

I found someone asking about 7200 ALTS on an antique fan collectors forum.

Purely a guess based on that:
A control box (speed, regulator, etc) for some type of fan (ceiling, industrial exhaust/blower, etc.)

A Resistor, likely for a light dimming application or similar in early-mid 1900’s. Wires VERY likely asbestos so handle accordingly and don't energize it! Could possibly be for fan speed changing also, if the fan had a universal (AC/DC) motor.
