I have a couple of question on this item. #1-Do you have a WAG as to who may have made it? It has McCoy colors but I couldn't find it in the Wall Pocket book. #2- Would you call it a wall pocket lamp/light or something else? even though it doesn't have the hole that wall pockets have for hanging? Approximately 6" x 6" x 2 1/4" TIA.[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

My WAG is that it was this way from the start. The hanger attached to the electrical fitting accommodates a nail and the narrow channel at the lower end on the back allows the wire the emerge from behind without pushing the pot away from the wall. No way it could stand alone. It's very cute!

Yes, Thanks for the response. I agree but what would you call it? Wall pocket sconce lamp light? Who made it may be a conundrum. Definitely not some light weight ceramics from Japan. I would guess c1950s

The socket looks post-WWII to me too. I could definitely see this in a late 40's kitchen, hanging over a sink (and by association, near the window that so often gives the dishwasher a view.)

I do not know who made it but we called them "pin up lamps" when I was growing up 1930s-50s. They were used all over the house as wall sockets and extension cords were more available than the built in lighting of today. I agree likely a kitchen or dinning nook. Sinks were under windows and had better light than the rest of the room. Could also have been over a bed for reading.

Remember sockets and cords were easily changed and not uncommon to do so.

Maybe Shawnee? The colors are close to their Corn King line.

Carl, I flipped through the Mangus ID & Value Guide, and the Vanderbilt Collector's Guide. The Mangus Shawnee book listed a different item they called a "wall lamp" - so they did make them, at least:

Nothing in the Vanderbilt. I was also trying to look for the same flower motif on different items, but didn't see it.

If you (or someone you know) has the Curran Shawnee Encyclopedia, might try that book.

Chuck, the only wall lamps I found in Curran's book was the same ones you posted a link to. The more I look at this, the more it does remind me of King Corn.

Don and Chuck, y'all got me to thinking about the corn patterns and did some double checking and the colors are more of a match for Stanfordware Corn pattern. Albeit I couldn't find any of these Pin Up Lamps by them. Reckon I'll just wing it in my listing. Thanks to all!

    Hi,
McCoy has the same yellow and green. It was very popular in the 50s.
