This was my mom's - and her parent's before that. My grandparents had a small carnival & then sideshows in a circus (the lady who changed into a wolf in front of you (mirrors), a freak show, and a couple of others). My grandfather had a couple of elephants that he would parade through a town announcing they were here - and this was his baton according to my sister.

I remember my grandmother telling us stories as kids - and that we were the most popular kids in our town because our farm had elephants in the pasture during the winter instead of cows!

Shangas I could smell the popcorn & sawdust listening to that!
Guys - I looked through a box of photos my sister gave me - here is my granddad in front of his show & my mom as a teenager practicing trick riding (she is in back)- that's her paint horse Trigger behind them - it would count by stomping it's hoof when my mom gave him a arithmetic question!

I've never seen a baton like that before - it is very cool!! And how wonderful, mysterious, and totally romantic a family history to have. There must be many 'untold' stories as well that happened. :) What were the years that the carnival ran? Into the 50s? I was given a small box camera in mid 50s that produced similar BW bordered photos. It'd be great fun to see more of them, yes.

Must have been 50's - 60's because I was born in 1960 and I remember my grandma telling us the stories when I was a kid 7 or 8
