Someone posted photos of a watch on FB, and I'm trying to see if I can decipher the hallmarks. I see the British mark for sterling, and I think I'm seeing the mark for Birmingham with a date letter stamp for 1815, but the maker's stamp is confusing me. It looks like C H, for Charles Harris, in Coventry. That mark, according to https://www.silvermakersmarks.co.uk/Makers/Birmingham-CE-CL.html#CG
    wasn't registered until 1893. What am I misinterpreting? 325962492_867598527884259_6278291502021435957_n.jpg 324579994_487244573565617_5997386660505452643_n.jpg

The shape of the cartouche for the anchor and "T" is the same as 1817 however there is no Sovereigns head duty mark.
Not all makers marks are listed.

Could the lack of Sovereigns head duty mark mean it was not made for export?

Duty mark has nothing to do with export, so no.

Phil only lists marks he has seen, so it's possible there is another maker with CH. But I am leaning toward 1893 because of the lack of sovereign's head. Perhaps he will see this query and comment. @silvermakersmarks

This is 1893 and Charles Harris. However it's not because of a lack of duty mark as duty on watch cases was removed in 1798. This form of hallmark with Birmingham anchor and date letter both in flat-topped shields with bevelled corners was introduced during the 1875-1899 date letter cycle.
