Picked this up a short while ago in Whaley Bridge. I must remember not to come here again. There are no pubs open! Sat in the train station killing time until the next pony express turns up. Even the waiting room is closed so sat on a bench outside the ticket office. Actually no I'm not. The attendant has just asked me to leave as he is closing the ticket office and passage outside it. It's like the dark ages.

The painting looks to be a water colour of Westminster bridge with st Paul's cathedral in the background. I can't make the artist signature out but looks like '71 after it. Also some writing on the back. Don't think it's relevant to the artist though

Ah I just assumed it was a gift and that was the names of the sender and recipient. I couldn't make out the name Mead in the signature so I discounted it. Thank you.

Possibly a gift to one of his two daughters or one of his sisters (although rather a grand address for an unmarried woman.)

I looked it up and it seems to be split into separate flats. Maybe it was reasonably priced back in the day.

I would replace the mount if I was any good. Nice skill to possess.

It is flats. But "back in the day", when there were no professional careers open to women, it was neigh near impossible for a lady to be self-supporting. Unless she had private income, it would have been unaffordable.
