Howdy everyone, hope you all had a great Easter Sunday, even with social distancing. I was putting together the eBay listing for this paperweight and realized that you all might be able to help me identify the stately gentleman on it. I've done a little poking around, I know he's not Josiah Wedgwood or any of the more common fellas that are portrayed on Wedgwood. Anyone recognize him off the top of their heads?

Thanks, everyone. Linda Wedgewood Paperweight (5).JPG

Looks familiar doesn't he. Someone will know about the clothing, maybe turn of the century or a bit earlier?

I think you are looking for someone in the late 1800s, not the 1700s.
I'm going on the collar and the way the "cravat" is tied.

Someone famous at that time. Statesman, author, scientist.

    From the Etsy listing above
...4) President Portrait (In research, looks like William McKinley, 25th President of US....
    That is their description, anyway.

Something in my head says Wedgwood did a whole series of US president weights.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The styles of collar and tie appear to be generally from the mid to late 19th century. (I'm not an expert on that, though). The hairstyle, however, seems to be from the later end of that range. I've looked at photos of all of the presidents from the 19th century and this one, to me, doesn't look much like any of them. I see people have been posting about McKinley. I agree with s_i_s and cluttered that there are big differences between McKinley and the Wedgwood one. Right away I noticed that both the shape of his head and his ears are very different.

So perhaps it isn't a President. The etsy listing, if I'm following it correctly, shows a mark on the reverse that is dated either 1968 or 1989, depending whether the two-year date is going the same direction as the Wedgwood mark or not.
