    Can't help with the item.

Every time I hear of the Willow pattern it reminds me of my deceased mother.

She recited it many times and no one really knows why.

    Two birds flying high,
    A Chinese vessel, sailing by.
A bridge with three men, sometimes four,
    A willow tree, hanging o'er.
A Chinese temple, there it stands,
    Built upon the river sands.
An apple tree, with apples on,
A crooked fence to end my song.

I'm sure she would laugh and love the fact that 7 years after her death, one of her great grandchildren would be named Willow.

    I love that story Davey!

And it's the first I've heard of the poem. I like it.

With so many holes, is it for pepper?

    Could it be for sugar?

    You might be right Judles

Just been looking, and found a few like mine called muffineers, for sprinkling sugar on muffins !

Too smal for a muffineer, it's pepper. Early 20th, I think.

    Yes, Muffineers are usually taller.

One must love pepper to use it! (IMHO):cat:

This looks like a hatpin holder to me--the pins are stuck into the holes to, well, hold them. Lovely little piece!
