    Just curious but . . . re the "base filled with pitch" statement on the bottom of the candle holder: when did such "fill(ing) with pitch" begin and is pitch still used (perhaps in various countries/areas)? ;)

    Hi,
    They have filling sterling knife handles and candlesticks with pitch for many many years. Now a days i think they use plaster of paris.
