They have such a wild look, I fell in love with them. Bidding time came and I threw in what I thought was a strong one knowing someone someday would need them enough to pay enough more than me to make me a nice profit. Thought I’d get them. It went $100 over that and I bid again, but alas didn’t win. Maybe better because I’d probably never have sold them despite having absolutely no possible use for them. I’d love to find out what they actually were for though!? I keep picturing them atop a grand hutch or armoire or something. Not even sure how they be incorporated in that respect. Could be architectural elements. A gate or something maybe. I really don’t know. Maybe someone here will. Looks like the back “cap” was torn off the top back of one. About 17” long.

Edit: seller thought they were 20th c mimicking something older. I wasn’t totally convinced but never had them in hand and seller was pretty smart. 831E83E2-6DCD-43D2-9ABC-A9C568657D03.jpeg FCABA8B2-5281-4FFA-9573-3FC4142DAF20.jpeg D6597B03-0437-42B9-BC3F-142D9A144725.jpeg D5F6EE20-D115-4614-9E9E-13C472FC0AC1.jpeg 280B508B-B49B-43ED-95A7-AF1F75C0D6B7.jpeg 89BAE075-4492-4C44-A8DA-13A2948415D6.jpeg

Without knowing a single about the subject, they look to me like they might be from some sort of carriage or chariot.

They look to fit together needing a central piece, but missing that central piece for some reason?

Wow thanks. I really have to start using image searches!!! I can’t imagine the ones I posted are actually Roman. If they are I sure wish I had ponied up more. Such neat things, it would have been cool to get them. One of those things you’ll always wonder how much higher you would have needed to go! I thought horses looked legumes funky and wild lol, mules makes sense.

Sure doesn't look like it might have been too comfortable to me....but fascinating!!!

:jawdrop::jawdrop::jawdrop::eek::eek::eek: Had no idea kelpies were so HUGE!!

And selkies seem much more biddable.
