WHAT ARE THESE CHAIRS? STOOLS? / RELIGIOUS? GOTHIC?

    A friend found these in a storage unit he won at auction & sold them to me for only $20 each! I thought they were so cool that they had to be worth more, but I have no idea if they are religious? Or gothic? Or even if they are chairs or maybe breakfast bar stools?
    I know they are primitive, but not that old - they have slot screws, which is better than phillips screws for age but not as good as if they'd been built with nails, right?
    I'd appreciate any help

    Any indication in the storage unit of someone having owned a bar?
