Featured What are these very old, covered in thin cotton(?) stuffed elephant & camel? India?

I was at my friend's 2nd hand furniture store when one of his employees arrived in his truck that was full of his latest storage auction win.
These were inside & as soon as I saw them I asked what he wanted for them; he said $20 each & I bought them on the spot. Picking them up to put in my van I was surprised how heavy they were?

And now like usual I need help knowing what I bought!

The elephant is in rougher shape but I like him the best; he reminds me of a short squat bulldog!

So can anyone tell me what these are & how old they are? Are they from India? (because of the decorations on them).

Is my elephant even worth anything in his condition?

    Thanks!

Not sure how you'd determine age, have seen these in import stores for years, suspect they're still made - heavy because there's usually a wood frame underneath...

I wonder if they were riding-type toys for children. Are they heavy and sturdy enough to support a toddler?

yes - I was actually wondering if they'd support me - but I don't think I could get back up with these knees if I sat down that low!
Then I even thought the elephant would make a cool pillow/support to watch tv - they are heavy but seem sturdy as heck.

I've got some wee Christmas tree ornaments like some of those.
