What did I buy? Antique carved table? Origins? Timeperiod?

I don't know by I bought this. Im based in the UK and this came in today at our local charity shop. I hope I didn't pay to much for it. But i found it very interesting and it did look like it has some age to it.

I think it was displayed against a wall and the top has three square cut outs with rounded edges. I guess it was holding maybe pots orso??

Can somebody maybe tell me more about it? Approx age and country where it was made, and what it was used for?

 

I'm thinking its maybe a plant pot holder or a buffet table?
Something round slides into them squares.
