Love the detail on these. I *think* they are okimono...unless they have holes in the back, then they would be netsuke.

Very cool. I'd love to find something like this in my travels.

They look like plastic to me. I wouldn't expect them to be terribly old - last 30 years or so. The idea comes from carved ivory figurines (okimono).

Their faces are so shiny (like plastic) that it made me pause, moreotherstuff, but I know so little about ivory that I didn't want to question it.

Wouldn't you likely see some bubbles or bubble pops if they were plastic?

Edited to add: While age and signature may play a part in the value of carvings, I think that quality is just as big a factor if not moreso. I've seen unsigned pieces go for decent amounts because they were good quality and/or an interesting subject.

    From artelino.com:

"Prices can range from US$100 to US$100,000. Top prices are connected to a few well known artist designers. But in general the existence of a signature does not have much influence on the value of a netsuke piece. Nor does the material. What matters most, is the quality of carving, originality and a charming subject."

Definitely plastic. And they probably have a lot of sisters.
The feet are like the feet on some antique netsuke and okimono, here is the bottom of one of my netsuke:

    Very cute.
I agree, not ivory - Resin.
They could be as early as the 1970s or as current as yesterday.

    Haven't seen KHL around lately.
Is this something they could read?

It probably is, but it would add no value to Chris' girls.

thanks for everyone's input they are definitely plastic.
because they are a plastic or resin and exactly the same shape but different patterns does that mean they came from a mould and then the patterns etc were done by hand
at 3 dollars each not complaining
also it's great that one thing can lead me to a whole new interest love the look of the
'antique netsuke and okimono, here is the bottom of one of my netsuke'

Blurry pictures, but this is the same netsuke. It is a little actor, the face is a mask:

The holes in the back, that tie.dye mentioned:
