From the estate of a military collector/reenactor, this was tagged as "Cannon Plug". It is marked 42 IN. and 10. It seems to be hollow but filled halfway with something solid. It measures 3 1/4 inches tall, 4 1/8 inches in diameter at the bottom and 5 inches in diameter at the top. Thanks for looking.

Tompion is the word I was looking for. Thanks.

Marking would be read as "4.2 inch" and would be used in the muzzle of a 4.2-inch siege rifle or a 30-pounder Parrott rifle. These artillery pieces were in use from about 1862-1880. That size tompion seems fairly scarce.
