I have a piece of silver marked Brown Sterling and would like to know if anyone recognises this tool just under 12 cms in length and flattened at both ends.
The font of the stamps looks to me like late 20th century artisan maker style. You may never know who "Brown" was or is. I also agree with the broken bookmark suggestion above.
It's awfully long for a toothpick, so I agree it must have been for something else. Maybe not though, artisans can be a little eccentric, and it might have been a custom one-off for that matter.
This couldn't have been used as a book mark as there is n sign of any damage/repair at either end and its flat till the middle then twists flat again not something to put between pages of a book but will keep looking and post the answer here thank you for all your replies.
I'm sorry to be dense, but that's the same picture as the first one and the end on the left does not look, from this angle, as if it matches the end on right.
maybe a small modellers pallete knife ?? for clay sculpting ? if not it could be sold for that purpose , just a thought, RL.
If it was made from square stock... one end was flattened and the piece was turned 90 degrees and the other end was flattened.
Having another look just now it looks like a round silver bar flattened horizontal at one end and vertical the other .I thought it twisted gradually but I can see the shape of it now in the photo.
Yes that's right only noticing the shape of it now after handling it again, could probably do some fine modelling work with it , that's a use it could be put to .
